For a lot of contractors, B-BBEE status is something that lives in a folder, pulled out only
when a tender asks for it. In South Africa’s mining, energy, and industrial sectors, it’s
becoming something else entirely: a genuine factor in who gets to do the work at all.
Across every Uduhu Holdings project, from an operational port to a live power station to a chemical containment site, safety planning begins before any work starts on site, not alongside it.
Some of the most demanding work we do never happens on dry land. Over the past year,
Uduhu Holdings has been carrying out steelwork repairs on Transnet National Ports
Authority’s dredging fleet — vessels that have to keep working, in operational ports, with
very little room for error.
Here’s a look at what that actually involved.
Not every project is about building something new — sometimes it’s about protecting
what’s already there. Our work with Enaex, at their Sasol Secunda site, involved exactly
that: chemical containment, structural steel, and environmental remediation in an
operating industrial plant.
Here’s what that looked like on the ground.
